Using kit scale
Scale Operating Tips
- Check the batteries first if you are having any trouble with your scale.
- Avoid using scale near (within 16 in) strong radio-emitting devices like computers and phones.
- Do not exceed maximum capacity (20g).
- Scale performs best at room temperature. Avoid exposure to extreme heat or cold.
- Allow the scale to warm up for 30 seconds before use.
- Gently apply all items to be weighed. Do not drop items onto the weighing platform.
- Always use on a flat and level surface, away from breezes.
To ensure accurate readings of your flower and concentrate potency, tCheck has provided a verified precision scale.
- Place the scale on a flat surface
- Press “ON” and wait until the scale shows “0.0.”
- Use “MODE” to cycle through the measurement units until “g,” or grams
- If the value is more excellent than “0.0” before adding material, press “TARE” to correctly zero the scale (For instance, when using the larger plate for measuring)
-
Place the sample material on the scale to get your sample reading.
-
Press “off” to turn off the scale
Battery installation
Before using the scale for the first time, you need to place 2 AAA batteries in the scale. To do this:
- Turn the scale over and remove the bottom door to expose the battery compartment.
- Place 2 AAA batteries into compartment following “+” and “-” symbols on scale. Replace the bottom door and turn on the scale to ensure the batteries are inserted correctly.
Taring /Zeroing
Turn on your scale and allow it to zero itself. You can always re-zero the scale by pressing the tare button. If the scale was tared without the metal sample dish, you must re-tare the scale if you place the dish on the scale.
Mode/Units
This scale can display the weight of your material in several different units.
Setting Scale to grams
After you have tared your scale, put it on the ‘g’ setting.
Note that the tCheck app takes input in terms of milligrams (mg) which is 0.001 g. On your scale, 100 mg would display as 0.100 g.
Scale Notifications
- Battery icon-Replace batteries
- “FULL” display — Maximum capacity exceeded (>20 grams)

Taking care of the scale
- Take off the cover carefully when using the scale.
- Do not put heavier objects than the capacity of the scale. This can damage the load cell.
- Do not strike or hit the plate of the scale.
- When the scale shows the battery mark, please replace the battery immediately.
Testing Raw Flower
- Collect one sample container, stirring stick, reagent, 10 mL syringe, a 1 mL syringe, and filter.
- Weigh out between 100–250 mg of flower (a pea-sized amount) and place it on the scale. The metal sample dish is helpful if the sample is crumbled or in multiple pieces, but that is optional.
- Record the weight of your sample. If you record this correctly, it will ensure your results are valid.
- Remove the lid on the sample container, and carefully put your cannabis flower into the container. Use the swizzle stick to break up the flower gently. Ensure that no plant material is stuck to the swizzle stick.
- Using the 10 mL syringe, draw precisely 10 mL of reagent and slowly push it into the sample container with your cannabis. Screw the lid onto the container and ensure it is sealed well. Shake it for 4-5 minutes.
- Allow the sample liquid to settle for a few seconds. Use the 1 mL syringe to draw approximately 0.5 mL of infusion without the filter.*
*Do not test your sample infusion after 6 minutes. Your test results will not be valid if cannabis sits in the reagent for longer than 6 minutes. Dispose of it accordingly. - Attach the filter to the nozzle of the filled 1 mL syringe. Insert approximately 0.25 ml (4 to 5 drops) of the infusion through the filter and into the indented well on the bottom tray on a flat, level surface.
- Close the tray by placing the upper half of the lid onto the bottom portion, ensuring no bubbles are visible. A small amount of liquid may squeeze out of the circular measurement area. There should be no floating plant material in the sample. If bubbles exist, open the tray and add more filtered analyte.
- Turn on your tCheck device and ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device. Then, open the tCheck app and click the “Run Test” button at the bottom of the screen.
- At the Select a Device screen, click on the serial number that appears. Select the “Raw Flower” option to begin testing. Follow the onscreen instructions in the app to complete your flower test.
Note: We recommend testing multiple samples in your batch of plant material. Plant potency may be affected by factors such as residual water content, harvest cycle (1st harvest, 2nd harvest, etc.), part of the plant, maturity of the bud, etc. Testing multiple samples in your batch and taking the average will provide a more representative understanding of your material. *Moisture content in the flower material will cause the % reading to go down. The amount of cannabinoids will be the same. However, because the result is shown as a percentage (mg/mg), the flower's denominator or weight will increase, reducing the result.
Testing Winterized Concentrate
- Collect one sample container, stirring stick, reagent, 10 mL syringe, a 1 mL syringe, and filter.
- Weigh out between 30–110 mg of concentrate (about the size of a grain of rice, depending on the type of concentrate) and place it directly into the metal dish on the scale. We recommend using a sample spoon if the concentrate is sticky or difficult to handle. If the sample spoon is to be used, be sure to tare the scale with the spoon before you collect your sample for a more accurate sample weight.
- Record the weight of your sample. If you record this correctly, it will ensure your results are valid.
- Remove the lid to the sample container, and carefully put your concentrate directly into the container. If your concentrate is on the sample spoon, put the entire spoon into the container.
- Using the 10 mL syringe, draw 10 mL of reagent precisely and gently expel it into the sample container with your cannabis. Quickly replace the lid on the container and ensure it is sealed well. Shake it for 5 minutes or until the sample is completely dissolved.
- Allow the sample liquid to settle for a few seconds. Use the 1 mL syringe to draw approximately 0.5 mL of infusion without the filter.
- Attach the filter to the nozzle of the filled 1 mL syringe. Insert approximately 0.25 mL (4 to 5 drops) of the infusion through the filter and into the convex well of your tCheck tray bottom on a flat, level surface. An exact amount is not necessary.
- Close the tray by placing the upper half of the lid onto the bottom portion, ensuring no bubbles are visible. A small amount of liquid may squeeze out of the circular measurement area.
- Turn on your tCheck device and ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device. Then, open the tCheck app and click the “Run Test” button at the bottom of the screen.
- At the “Select a Device” screen, click on the serial number that appears. Select the “Winterized Concentrate” option to begin testing. Follow the onscreen instructions in the app to complete your concentrate test.
Interpreting your results
The results will be a percentage of cannabinoid content. Once you get your test results, you can add notes about your sample, including strain type, extraction method, etc. Notes can help you keep track of what you tested and when. Results and notes are stored in the Log section of the app.
